- Sponsored by a Leverhulme Trust research fellowship and by the EPSRC through grants on Quantum Discrimination for Data Retrieval and High Rate Coherent Quantum Channels, this work exploited a solved conjecture to prove the optimality of Gaussian discord. The result had deep implications in quantum optics and information because it led to a complete understanding and characterisation of the quantum correlations that are possessed by some of the most important bosonic states, the Gaussian states. Thanks to this result, we can now compute the amount of quantum discord in Gaussian states and fully exploit this fundamental resource in quantum protocols.
