- Chiles is a major contributor to and sole editor of this collaborative, multi-authored work (with four co-authors), Building Schools: Key Issues for Contemporary Design. Chiles is the author of the substantive book introduction and two of the ten thematic chapters: Chapter 1 From Ideas for Learning to Architectural Form and Chapter 6 Learning Outside the Classroom. The book's central focus is upon setting out the extensive underpinning research programme that was developed to inform a series of school-based architectural projects for the Building Schools for the Future programme. The research and projects were undertaken by the author team, which was led by Chiles. The book communicates the research to an inter-disciplinary audience.
