- This book represents a complex piece of research that required additional effort in order to access primary sources which were difficult to obtain. This research was part-funded by the Developmental Leadership Programme conducted over four periods of fieldwork from 2011 to 2012, with extended fieldwork over 5 weeks in July-August 2012. It involved interviews and focus groups with political elites and leaders of community groups, social movements, NGOs and businesses in Medellín Colombia. As a city marked by urban violence, Medellin presented a complex field site that required additional time for data collection and analysis.
