- This edition is a longer-form work and the first to reproduce Symonds's autobiography in its entirety (based on his difficult to access, one of a kind manuscript). The volume is over 223,000 words; of these, Regis was responsible for writing more than 63,000 words, comprising editorial apparatus and critical introduction. Regis was sole editor of the volume, responsible for all transcription and annotation. The project involved painstaking research across different archives in order to piece together the manuscript's history, and meticulous, repeated checks to ensure the accuracy of the text and the information given in notes.
