- This paper introduces and coined the term ‘cognitive beamforming’ for spectrum sharing systems, where multiple wireless systems use the same radio spectrum. This technique used low complexity and low-cost signal processing techniques to increase the overall system throughput and, at the same time, reduces the amount of inter-system interference. The authors were invited to give two tutorials (IEEE VTC’17, PIMRC’19) and a key-note speech (PIMRC 2019) based on the works in this paper. Subsequent follow-on work building on this paper was the main component in the LU-coordinated EU Horizon 2020 ATOM proposal, successfully funded by the EU (€1m).
