- The Bible was the cornerstone of English religion and culture throughout the Middle Ages and early modernity. Based on an extensive survey of hundreds of manuscripts and early printed Bibles, this book sheds new light on the creation, dissemination and use of Bibles. It reveals unknown sources and unearths new evidence for production and readership. Exploring Bibles both before and after print and Reformation, the span of the monograph enables a new conceptualisation of English religion and book history.
