- This volume is the first comprehensive study of infancy and earliest childhood looking at and exploring extensive sets of original data and examining evidence from the expanse of the empire. It represents the culmination of years or research on the Roman world and the archaeology of childhood by the author. It integrates archaeology with social and cultural history, and examines material culture, iconography and funerary evidence. The research was funded over many years by numerous grants including a Leverhulme Research Fellowship.
