- This monograph is a 100,000 word interdisciplinary study of the DUP, conducted from 2012-14. It covers its origins, as a party of protest, to the becoming the dominant party in political unionism in Northern Ireland. The study combines political science, history and sociology. It reflects the political growth of the party; national identity; the role of women in the party; religious identity; electoral performance; and attitudes to social issues, such as divorce, abortion and same sex marriage. It is based on documents; interviews with over 90 individuals; and several focus groups.
