- This book represents eight years of sustained reflection and research involving the collection and analysis of a large body of data from a diverse range of historical archives in South Africa in combination with sixteen months of intensive ethnographic research and analysis. This included the work of translation by the author from IsiZulu to English and engagement with a wide body of anthropological and political theory to produce an extensive ethnographically and historically informed analysis of how democracy is variously interpreted and understood.
