- This paper reports on the development of transparent barrier coatings on polymeric web and the post processing steps needed to convert them into flexible food packaging materials. This work arose from a PhD project that was 50% funded by Bobst Manchester Ltd (Nick.Copeland@bobst.com). The success of the PhD project led directly to a KTP project with Bobst. The combined knowledge from these projects allowed BOBST to create a ‘turn-key’ solution for customers that integrates coating, conversion, printing and finishing of AlOx film, which has made them the global leader for AlOx-coated packaging film manufacturing systems.
