- One of the first papers to propose a mechanism for how bots on social media could influence users and under what conditions. An agent-based simulation model was developed for this purpose. It was published in one of the most prestigious journals in its field, where it was selected as the 2020 Editor’s Choice article and awarded the Stafford Beer Medal in recognition of its outstanding significance and theoretical novelty. As evidence of its impact outside academia, it was widely reported on, for example on the website of German TV news service Tagesschau, and it received considerable attention on social media.
