- Islamism and Cultural Expression in the Arab World (Routledge, 2015) is the first collection to address the ways in which Islamism is represented and critiqued in various cultural contexts and across three different languages (Arabic, English, French). It gathers together many of the leading figures in Middle Eastern studies throughout the world. Firstly, Hamdar contributed equally with her co-editor Lindsey Moore to the conception, content and editing of the volume. She also co-wrote the introduction (pp.1-27) which is the first survey essay to map out the key issues, themes and constraints that inform cultural representations of Islamism and the definitional problems at play. In writing the introduction, Hamdar was solely responsible for identifying unknown, original Arabic sources and material that inform some of the key issues that underpin the collection. Finally, Hamdar also contributed a chapter (pp. 123-137) to the collection which addresses the relationship between the doctor and the terrorist in Arab fiction and film
