- This highly cited paper studied the feasibility of using packed beds (direct-contact heat transfer, rather than indirect-contact heat exchangers) to store the compression heat in Compressed Air Energy Storage systems. As a result, the lead author coordinated the UK-China joint workshop on Efficient Energy Utilisation (Nanjing, 11-14 August 2017) and was also invited to give a keynote lecture at the 25th Joint Annual Conference of the Chinese Society of Chemical Science and Technology in the UK and Society of Chemical Industry’s Chinese UK Regional Group (University of Manchester, 6-7 September 2018).
