- Part of the European Commission-funded practice-as-research CINAGE project, this output is underpinned by research in gerontology, later-life-learning and intergenerational collaboration. Extensive primary research was undertaken involving interviews, forums and workshops with older people which resulted in a live theatre production performed by senior citizens, a documentary film, and a book chapter.
It premiered at the Education for the Learning of Older Adults conference in Leeds (2017) and toured in 2018 to the Liverpool International Cornerstone Festival and the Richard Demarco Archive at the Edinburgh Festival. Versions were presented at conferences in Poland (2016 ) and Denmark (2017).

- Teresa Brayshaw is the principal researcher, writer and artistic director of ‘Talkin ‘Bout My Generation’, a project exploring the experiences and concerns of those over the age of 60 in the UK following the EU referendum. Drawing on interviews and workshops, these contributions produced a live show. This work was realised by working with a group of senior students who took part in the original CINAGE Live research project led by Brayshaw.
The latest part of the European Commission-funded practice-as-research CINAGE project, entitled CINAGE Live, is underpinned by research in gerontology, later-life-learning and intergenerational collaboration, producing films and performances by older people. Findings were also shared in the book chapter ‘UK Senior Citizens Learn Filmmaking as a Creative Pathway to Reflection and Fulfilment’ co-authored with Jenny Granville which contextualises their methodology in the form of an email exchange, a commissioned documentary film and a script, versions of which have been presented at the AEA International Conference on Learning in Later Life: Theory, Policy and Practice, Milton Keynes (2016), and European Society of Research on the Education of Adults conferences in Poland (2016 ) and Denmark (2017).
The performance and book chapter demonstrated the value of using theatre to challenge stereotypes and give space to a demographic underrepresented in popular culture and the media. ‘Talkin’ ‘Bout My Generation’ premiered at the Education for the Learning of Older Adults conference in Leeds in November 2017 and toured in 2018 to the Liverpool International Cornerstone Festival, the Richard Demarco Archive at the Edinburgh Festival and Leeds International Festival (2019). A specially commissioned radio version was broadcast by ELFM community radio in March 2019. The work was positively reviewed in the Independent, the Yorkshire Post, Drama Queen’s Review and North Leeds Life. The work was seen by over 400 people across 12 performances.
