- Mock Politeness in English and Italian: A corpus-assisted metalanguage analysis (John Benjamins, 2016) is the first volume to explicitly address implicational impoliteness. It offers a methodologically innovative approach which challenges conventional pragmatics methods by incorporating both a focus on how language users themselves orient towards linguistic behaviours, and the big data opportunities of corpus linguistics. This substantial and original study (232pp) is based on the collection and highly extensive annotation of a corpus of c.96 million words, the assembly and analysis of which took over six years’ research to complete.
