- This paper presents a design framework to improve online knowledge construction mediated by computer supported argumentation technologies. The paper was agenda-setting for using quantitative methods to evaluate social science common ground theory, through the design of a rigorous experimental protocol and evaluation metrics. Its findings have been replicated and validated in larger and more naturalistic technology settings (Iandoli et al 2018). It was exploited in the Social Platform for Open Data (SPOD) within the ROUTE-TO-PA Horizon2020 European project (GA.645860) to develop a new hybrid technology where a forum-like interface and a map-based visualisation were combined to improve online collaboration.
