- This is a complex and wide-ranging study which traces the evolution of the concept of soul in the thought of Plato, Aristotle and Descartes, considers recent philosophical accounts of the nature of consciousness and subjectivity and examines the psychoanalytic view that large parts of the psyche are hidden from direct conscious awareness. It is an extended piece of research exploring the concept of soul in its many dimensions, historical, moral, psychological and spiritual and revealing its pivotal importance for understanding the human predicament.
