- An output of EPSRC TECalloy (EP/K011413/1) led by Greenwich, this synchrotron tomographic study performed through a winning ESRF grant, features collaboration with Manchester University, the University of British Columbia and Dr Attwood of Diamond Light Source. The experiment and simulations are novel and unique in showing the time-development of alloy microstructure during directional solidification in a specially developed experimental micro furnace. In this respect it has been possible to follow through the evolution of a single dendrite, leading to deeper understanding of the solidification process. This experiment was ranked highly by ESRF and featured in their Facebook page.
