- This paper, an outcome of international and industrial collaboration, proposes a novel design method for an optical element to generate uniform illumination within a rectangular area. Although the technology’s main application is street lighting, it has applications in other areas such as general illumination and optical wireless communications (which can be used in Health). The technology proposed in this paper will contribute to reduce CO2 emissions by stimulating the adoption of LED based lights as it satisfies national and international standards of street lighting. A patent has been filed (No.17745460.0) with the intention of exploiting this technology.
