- The study applies a novel methodology to characterise particulate matter in GDI engines, through Transmission Electron Microscopy of engine oil samples, providing increased data robustness compared to more common exhaust flow-based measurements. The work has helped establish a long line of collaborative R&D work between Ford and OBU, principally the APC6 DYNAMO project (TSB Ref 78938 506185). Ford have also provided c£100k in in-kind funding to support a large experimental campaign to further understand the link between PM and combustion across a range of different-quality gasoline fuels 506185).
