- 5G wireless communications will inherently rely on electronically steered, directional beam antenna arrays and MIMO technology. In this paper we give the first experimental verification a novel mechanism to achieve adaptive beamforming using electrically small arrays which produces steerable beams from a platform considerably smaller than anything available before. The proposed solution allows energy-efficient antenna terminals realized on future 5G handsets.
