- This first critical study of the relationship between Mussolini and Hitler is c. 140,000 words long and based on eight years of research. Its original interpretation of this relationship goes beyond conventional political histories and accounts of generic fascism. Instead, it uses the leaders' relationship to outline a new social and cultural history of politics and a cultural history of fascist diplomacy. It is based on archival sources in Germany and Italy which are hard to access and often previously unused. It has been translated into Danish, Italian, and German, with Romanian, Brazilian, and Arabic translations under contract.
