- “This two volume work is a single output providing a complete translation of Augustine’s Confessions with a single introduction for both volumes”. This fresh translation of the Confessions reflects the dramatic style of the original and its relationship to liturgical praxis. It largely follows the critical text of O’Donnell, but takes its own independent course on textual variants. These matters and other interpretive issues are documented in the extensive scholarly notes. The introduction reflects Hammond’s perspective on recent Augustine scholarship, but is framed in light of the conventions of the Loeb series.
