- This book presents the essays, published in their entirety, on two topics ('My Agricultural Work in Pomerania' and 'Revolution in the Ruhr') written by thirty-five 16- and 17-year-old boys from Essen's teacher-training college about their experiences of the 1918 German revolution. This is the largest published collection of first-hand accounts of the revolution by male teenagers. The book includes a 76-page introduction which provides a detailed historical context about the production of the essays, and appendices with biographical information about the boys and the teacher who asked them to reflect on their personal experiences of revolution in 1918.
