- While steel castellated beams are widely used to provide services in the web openings and hence reduce the storey height, the presence of openings in the web reduces their strength and stiffness, in particular, their buckling strength. This paper is significant because it shows how a comprehensive analytical study can be deployed to determine the lateral-torsional buckling strength of such beams. This analytical solution has a substantial benefit to practicing structural engineers.
