- This is a ‘monograph’ (xii + 228 pages) requiring four years’ sustained research. It is both an ‘investigation of a given theme in considerable depth, from different perspectives’ and a ‘complex piece of research’. It is complex because of its strong interdisciplinary component. The theme is a biblical view of humanity. This involves analysis of biblical material, including the regular aspects of biblical study, namely languages, literature, history and religious ideas, and currents in modern biblical interpretation. It also entails perspectives from theology, linguistics, hermeneutics, the human sciences, and research in specific issues in contemporary thinking about the human condition.
