- This paper describes a fundamentally new method of preparing metallic nanowires, which uses shorter vacuum processing times, reduced precious metal usage, and moreover, allows the metallic nanowires to be easily released from the template. The paper is published in one of the leading international journals in the field and results were included in Prof. Walsh’s 2017 Society of Chemical Industry’s Castner Medal Lecture. This research inspired further collaborative work with the Technical University of Ilmenau, via an EU funded Erasmus programme (€4k), which has led to new ways of fabricating metallic nanowires and nanomeshes (70th ISE Conference, Durban, SA, 2019).
