- This article proposes a new dating for the Life of St Memmie of Châlons, based on a thorough examination of extant manuscripts. Whereas scholars have suggested a seventh-century date, we argue that the text was in all likelihood composed in the second half of the ninth century, at a time when different towns were claiming apostolic foundations in order to bolster their prestige.
