- This volume offers new literary translations of c. 7000 lines of Old French and medieval Occitan epic poetry. Underpinning these translations is extensive research on the lexis, syntax and prosody of an exceptionally early text (the Roland) and a notoriously challenging text linguistically (Daurel et Beton). Some of this research preceded the translation and was carried out within the framework of other prior projects, but some was conducted concurrently. There is a substantial introduction, which offers new insights into the texts, and a critical apparatus that supports the translation. The translations were completed over a period of 2-3 years.
