- The book was jointly planned and edited by Gavin Kelly and Joop van Waarden. They co-authored the Introduction and Epilogue on a joint basis, and chapter 15 ‘Prose Rhythm in Sidonius’ with Van Waarden as the lead author (the precise division of labour is indicated in the opening paragraph). Kelly is the sole author of chapter 3 ‘Dating the Works of Sidonius’.
The book was supported by two grants of which Kelly was PI: ‘Prolegomena to the Study of Sidonius Apollinaris’ (BA/ Leverhulme SRG, 2014-2016, £8948), which paid for the conference at which the contributors planned the book; and ‘Sidonius Apollinaris: a comprehensive commentary for the 21st century’ (Leverhulme Trust International Network, 2014-2017, £63281), which paid for the travel and reproductions necessary for Dolveck’s chapter 16, ‘The Manuscript Tradition of Sidonius’. Funds from both grants contributed to the translation of various chapters from Italian and French.
