- The book is the product of research and writing over a fifteen-year period, part of which was funded by a two-year Leverhulme research fellowship (2010--12). The research involved extensive use of archival materials, ranging from the late Middle Ages to the nineteenth century, and records written in Latin, Hungarian, and German. Archives consulted include national and local repositories in Hungary and Romania. Although focusing on Hungarian customary law, the book is also alert to the broader context and includes comparative material drawn from several other European countries.
