- A new emergency control for HVDC links to relieve, in real-time, transmission lines overloads and enhance the security of interconnected networks during contingencies. The control has been validated on the Hydro-Québec transmission system in collaboration with the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and can also be applied to other power flow control devices. The approach is simple to implement, requiring minimal input data and can be used for all AC/DC systems. This will help Transmission System Operators worldwide ensure security of their highly loaded systems due to the increased penetration of intermittent distributed energy sources.
