- This monograph (253 pages) is the first monograph to focus entirely on the representation of the Gypsy woman in both literary texts and the visual arts. It advances a new, transhistorical approach to the representation of Romani women. Chapters consider this representation from different cultural/critical lenses including Race, Cultural mythos, domesticity, cultural encounters, and concepts of authenticity. It draws on over 200 primary sources, (visual art, literary and journalism, from the eighteenth century to the present) and includes an eighteen-page bibliography. and secondary sources
