- The book involved gathering many difficult to access primary sources between 2011 and 2019 because of the topic’s sensitivity. I gathered seventeen interviews with different conflict participants, and cross-referenced these with multiple memoirs, newspapers and archival papers (UCD, LSE, UK National Archives, NUI Galway Archives). It took considerable time to build trust with interviewees on this controversial topic. It was also crucial to cross-reference various primary sources representing different sides of the conflict because of the topic’s politicisation. I also evaluated sources exploring regional variation during the conflict, an overlooked factor in existing urban-focused conflict literature. It is 120,000 words.
