- In this paper, using a combination of experiment, bespoke data analysis, and first principles modelling, we demonstrate that field effect underpinned by the evaporation of complex molecular ions dissociating en route to the detector. This has made significant impact in the community as it provides a basis for identifying and accounting for inaccuracies in APT measurements, but also optimising experimental parameters in the analysis of an increasing wide range of engineering materials.
