- This paper outlines a new process called HyDP (Hydrogen Ductilisation Process), for creating ductility in NdFeB alloys. The work demonstrates a new method for making anisotropic fully dense rare earth magnets for the first time from a solid material at room temperature. A patent application has been submitted (Patent No. GB1511553.8). Over the last 12 months the authors have been working with Daido Steel in Japan to work towards commercialising this technology. The work has led to invited/keynote talks at Intermag (International Magnetics Conference) and SIPS (Sustainable Industrial Processing Summit). HyDP offers significant cost savings compared to conventional magnet manufacture.
