- This National Institute of Healthcare Research (NIHR) monograph is the comprehensive report of FiCTION, the first NIHR funded (£2.3) multi-centre UK-wide trial to challenge conventional treatment of extensive decay in 3-7years old children. Requiring a multidisciplinary team and complex methods, FiCTION evaluated clinical- and cost-effectiveness of conventional-fillings, a new approach and no treatment. The author conceived the idea, secured funding, and led the trial as chief investigator. She was Scotland’s clinical lead, supported recruitment and clinically trained 72 general-dentists, assessed treatment fidelity and outcomes of 1461 child patients over 3-years and contributed to interpretation of data and drafting the monograph
