- This 301-page book is the first academic book to examine the Crystal Palace at Sydenham, and to take it seriously as a lens for examining nineteenth-century cultural history. It is the result of sustained archival research, based on a wide range of previously unknown and unpublished primary material. Its focus on the reception of Greek and Roman sculpture in nineteenth-century Britain necessitated a comprehensive engagement with secondary literature in classical studies, classical archaeology, art history and nineteenth-century studies.
