- This monograph examines the politics of gender segregation and the changing modalities of state power in Iran. Building on the author’s doctoral dissertation (UC Berkeley 2013), it includes additional systematic fieldwork, such as participant observation and an extensive review of over 900 newspaper reports and state archival documents, spanning over 30 years, along with 132 interviews in Iran (2013-2015). Often bypassing practical and political obstacles, the monograph provides a rare overview of women’s rights in Iran. The book was revised and completed for publication over a two year period from 2016-2018.
