- A sole authored and highly detailed biography of Cicely Saunders, who was a pioneer of the hospice and palliative care movement. Written whilst the author was in receipt of a Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator award, this book draws on a large number of interviews undertaken with Saunders, her relatives and colleagues; large volumes of her correspondence, and; many of her publications, to highlight her influence and contributions. It represents the culmination of several years’ research investigation (although the book itself was written in a year) and presents insights which were dependent on this prolonged and detailed period of research.
