- This collaborative work with ONERA and CETIM company (in France) is the first to describe a novel design methodology (QSD) for automotive composite parts employing the Quilted Stratum Process (QSP). The complex optimisation is divided into sub-problems which progressively include manufacturing constraints associated with QSP thermoplastic layout and press. The work has a direct impact to industry as the QSD is an enabling design software for the QSP-production line developed by CETIM (Denis.Espinassou@cetim.fr) and will be integrated in Altair State-of-the-art commercial suite as referenced (https://altairhyperworks.com/partner/QSD). The work also led to new collaborative PhD projects between Bristol and ONERA, see (https://w3.onera.fr/formationparlarecherche/sites/w3.onera.fr.formationparlarecherche/files/mas-dmas-2018-14_0.pdf).
