- This paper provides a solid digital foundation required to consolidate and annotate neuroscientific data. We defined 3D neuroanatomical boundaries based on developmental landmarks, consolidated existing term names and historically used definitions into a modern ontological framework for flexible reuse and future development. This paper while in preprint has already been cited in papers covering connectomics, transcriptomics, developmental lineages and behavioural circuit analysis in the VNS since they all need to ground their work to a common neuroanatomical standard. While in preprint the paper had >1,350 full-text downloads (at 03/2020) via biorxiv.org.
