- This study on the cultural role of the Soviet threat in British society and politics from the late 1940s to the early 1960s draws on contemporary newspapers and periodicals – national, regional and those produced by pressure groups – novels, films and pamphlets. The interdisciplinary study incorporates research from the National Archives of the UK, Kew, but also broadcasting, labour history, art, photography and mass observation archives. By considering the intersection between politics, culture and society, it integrates many different types of source material. Beginning with the author’s doctoral research, research and writing lasted around a decade.
