- Due to increasing demands of composite materials in marine applications, it is important to understand the mechanical behaviour of composite structures when deployed in river and/or in ocean, otherwise fatigue life of such structures under moisture diffusing environment cannot be identified. In this context, this paper is of significance because it develops a numerical simulation technique that couples moisture diffusion and resulting stress concentration, and identifies possible failure mechanism of composite materials at microscale.
