- Double-weighted statement
- A longer-form output (monograph with 112,000 words, 280 pages) from sustained research over eight years. Its critical insights about queer and otherwise challenging masculinities in East Germany required an extended investigation in considerable depth that accounts for many different perspectives. The body of primary material collected and analysed is therefore very large: over fifty years (1962-2019) of literature, film and television and the work of around twenty writers and filmmakers are analysed. Many film, television and archive sources were difficult to access and required a lengthy period of collection and investigation, including repeated fieldwork trips to Germany.
