- This monograph was written and researched over a fourteen year period. It draws on a wide range of different archival resources, including a sermon notebook which I identified as belonging to Matthew in 2012 and which consisted of c. 200 folios. I also examined annotations in Matthew’s 17th-century library consisting of c. 2000 works. New language skills were required to use these sources, necessitating the study of medieval Latin and Italian. This is the first study of a pivotal and overlooked figure in the English Reformation.
