- This work reports the numerical prediction and experimental validation of a new materials separation method, which is based on the discrepancies in electrical resistivities. Non-metallic inclusions have been removed from the liquid steel using the principle. The research was funded by EPSRC, and attracted 2 subsequent grants from TATA Steel Europe (contact: gert.abbel@tatasteeleurope.com) for scale up industrial pilot plant trials at Materials Processing Institute (contact: tu.tran@mpiuk.com). The trials are successful. Further trial at 1 ton per treatment is under planning at TATA Steel. The output has also attracted a Royal Society Newton Advanced Fellowship grant (Ref: NA150320, £111,000).
