- Members of the Birmingham ATLAS top physics group, which was led by Hawkes, were among the first to make a direct measurement of the top-quark decay width at the LHC. This work is documented in the PhD thesis of a Birmingham postgraduate student, which was completed in 2015 under Hawkes' supervision. This analysis was then developed further and extended to give the direct top-quark decay width measurement reported in this ATLAS publication.
