- This 80,000-word monograph represents sustained research effort and an extended output, over seven years of research and three years of writing. It represents the collection and analysis of a large body of primary material, and the investigation of several themes in considerable depth, from multiple perspectives. The material sources examined comprise twelve image-relic tabernacles, comparative material, and relevant archival material, none of it digitised. The objects and archives are held in thirteen separate collections, both private and public (in the UK, US, Italy, and France). Each of the tabernacles was examined and photographed, and the archival material examined and transcribed.
