- Penny Sparke conceived, researched and wrote Nature Inside over a period of twelve years. The five extended case-studies that it contains (Hyatt Regency Hotel, The Ford Foundation Building, Californian mid-century housing, the NorthPark Center, and Villa Tugendhat) required four research trips to the USA (Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles and Dallas) and one to Europe (Brno). Archive research and photography were undertaken in all those locations. Archives in Liverpool and London were also consulted, among others. Funding for picture research (totalling £12,000) was awarded by the Graham Foundation, the Scouloudi Foundation and the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain.
